Configure KickStart Server


How to configure KickStart Server

  • Create a kickstart file.
  • Create a boot media with the kickstart file or make the kickstart file available on the network.
  • Make the installation tree available.
  • Start the kickstart installation.

Create and Copy Kiskstart File to FTP Server Path

  • On the first step go to your PXE machine /root directory and copy the file named anaconda-ks.cfg to vsftpd default server path (/var/ftp/pub) 

  • Verify  the  ownership,  this should  be owned  by  ftp  user 

  • Edit  the ks.cfg  file  with  required  changes..  and validate  the  kickstart  file  using ksvalidator

  • Make  sure  FTP  is  configure  on  this  server  and  anonymous  is  configured.

How to configure KickStart Client

  • Insert  RHEL  media (Physical Server )
  • Login  to  the  console  and  boot  the  machine  to  BIOS  settings  by  pressing  F2  at  startup
  • Define  cdrom  as  first  bootable  device and  exit from  BIOS

  • Next  is  the  installation  screen  appears  ,  here  need  to  press  esc  to  enter in to boot  menu  as  below

  • Then  the  installation  proceeds   as  un-attended  installation  by  taking  the  answers  from  kickstart file.
