  • When you browse a web page over the Internet, the code to create that page must be retrieved from a server located in some datacenter.
  • The server that sends the code to display a web page is called a web server.
  • By installing Apache HTTPd package even Linux server can be working as web server to listen client request and transfer the code files to the client.
  • The Apache HTTP server is a popular and open source web server to host web applications compatible for Linxu and Windows hosts as well.

Configuration for Apache HTTP:

  • Use : Hosting a web site.
  • Package : httpd
  • Port : 80/http, 443/https
  • Configuration Files : /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
  • /etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf (https)
  • Document Root : /var/www/html
  • Daemon : httpd
  • Script : /etc/initd/httpd
